Cuban Sandwich – Classic Recipe

The Cuban sandwich, or “Cubano,” is a classic sandwich from Cuba. It features ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on French bread. It is simple to make and absolutely delicious!

You will need a panini press or skillet to make this sandwich.

Ingredients:

1 loaf of Cuban bread or French bread, sliced lengthwise

1/2 lb roast pork, thinly sliced

1/2 lb ham, thinly sliced

4 slices Swiss cheese

Dill pickles, thinly sliced

Yellow mustard

Softened butter or mayonnaise (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat a panini press or a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise and spread a thin layer of mustard on both sides of the bread.
  3. Layer the bottom half of the bread with slices of roast pork, followed by slices of ham, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles.
  4. Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich to close it.
  5. If using a panini press, spread a thin layer of softened butter or mayonnaise on the outer sides of the bread. If using a skillet, you can spread butter directly on the skillet.
  6. Place the sandwich in the panini press or skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted, about 5-7 minutes.
  7. If using a skillet, you can press the sandwich down with a spatula while cooking to flatten it.
  8. Once the sandwich is cooked, remove it from the panini press or skillet and let it cool slightly before slicing it into individual portions.
