How to Make Corn Dogs: A Step-by-Step Guide

Everyone loves corn dogs, am I right? Seriously, is there anyone who doesn’t like corn dogs? Anyone? I didn’t think so. That would be crazy!

Sure, you’ve probably had corn dogs at a fair, or maybe you bought frozen corn dogs from the grocery store and cooked them in the oven. But did you ever make corn dogs at home from scratch? Check out the corn dog recipe below for instructions about how to make them yourself.

Ingredients:

1 cup of cornmeal

1 cup of flour

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 tablespoon of baking powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1 egg

1 cup of milk

8-10 hot dogs

8-10 wooden skewers

Oil for frying

Step 1: Preheat the oil Begin by preheating your oil in a deep pot or fryer. The oil should be heated to 350°F, which is the ideal temperature for frying corn dogs.

Step 2: Prepare the batter In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients together until they are well combined. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk. Mix the wet ingredients together until they are well combined. Then, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms.

Step 3: Skewer the hot dogs Take the wooden skewers and insert them into the hot dogs. Make sure the skewer goes through the center of the hot dog and comes out the other side. This will make it easier to dip the hot dogs into the batter and fry them.

Step 4: Dip the hot dogs into the batter Take each skewered hot dog and dip it into the batter. Use a spoon to coat the hot dog evenly with batter. Make sure the batter is thick enough to coat the hot dog, but not too thick that it drips off.

Step 5: Fry the corn dogs Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the preheated oil. Fry them for 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown. Use tongs to turn the corn dogs over in the oil so they cook evenly on all sides.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy! Once the corn dogs are cooked, use the tongs to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve them with ketchup, mustard, or any other condiment of your choice.

Making corn dog at home is really not the hard. So give it a try!
